Performance
and
Lameness Exams
A performance evaluation is a comprehensive physical exam that focuses on your horse's fitness, soundness, and overall performance capabilities. During this assessment, we conduct flexion tests and examine tendon structures, the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular and respiratory health, as well as the spine.
Results from the evaluation will be discussed with you. Together, we'll collaborate on any necessary treatments or therapies that can enhance your horse's performance and well-being.
It's important to note that a performance evaluation does not automatically imply your horse will need "injections." Rather, it serves as a vital tool to gauge your horse's current condition. Early detection of minor issues can prevent them from progressing, potentially keeping your horse active and competing at their best.

At PHD Veterinary Services, we recommend a performance evaluation every 6 months to ensure your horse is in top shape. Regular check-ups can catch potential issues early, helping to maintain peak performance. This is why we created the Performance Plan, tailored to meet the specific needs of your horse and keep them performing their best year-round.
